The Ice Sports Industry (ISI) has entered into an agreement with the U.S. Center for SafeSport to allow ISI current Professional members to take the necessary training with the U.S. Center for SafeSport.

WHAT is the U.S. Center for SafeSport?

The U.S. Center for SafeSport is an independent 501(c) non-profit organization committed to building a sports community where participants can work and learn together in an environment free of emotional, physical and sexual abuse and misconduct.

WHY is the ISI in agreement with U.S. Center for SafeSport?

The ISI board of directors adopted the following resolution at its November 2019 fall meeting:

In order to be compliant with the applicable provisions of the legislative bill S. 534-Protecting Young Victims from Sexual Abuse and SafeSport Authorization Act of 2017 as enacted in February 2018, ISI shall endorse and adopt the policies and practices of the U.S. Center for SafeSport program and implement its education and reporting system prior to the start of the 2020-2021 Professional membership registration season.

WHEN should a Professional member take the training course?

ISI Professional members that also coach in the U.S. Figure Skating program do not need to retake the training if they have already completed it.

If you have already taken SafeSport® Trained (and it has been longer than two years), you must take Refresher 1: Recognizing and Reporting Misconduct. After that you would take Refresher 2: Preventing Misconduct and then Refresher 3: Creating a Positive Sport Environment. Each certificate is valid for 2 years.

WHAT is the training?

The approach to preventing abuse in sport begins with awareness and how to recognize the red flags of emotional, physical, and sexual misconduct, and then what to do if abuse does occur.

The online SafeSport® Trained 90-minute core course covers the following topics in-depth and provides a pre-and post-testing component:

  • Mandatory Reporting
  • Sexual Misconduct Awareness Education
  • Emotional and Physical Misconduct

Detailed instructions from the U.S. Center for SafeSport:
